NSportz promoted the inaugural Corporate Table Tennis Tournament of 11even Sports Pvt Limited conducted under the auspices of the table tennis associations (MSDTTA & MCDTTA) at Khar Gymkhana on the 22nd & 23rd Aug 2015. Over 125 players from 25+ Corporates were fighting it out over the 2 day period to emerge winners amidst a lot of networking outside their corporate board rooms. There was the Corporate Super Teams Category (restricted to 16 teams) where corporate teams were divided into four groups of four corporates and each group match comprised 5 matches (Men's Singles, Ladies Singles, Men's Doubles, Mixed Doubles & 2nd Men's Singles) with each match was worth 10 points. The top two teams from each group basis the points earned qualified for the knockouts (quarter finals). The top 4 teams fighting out the semi finals were TCS, ICICI Bank A, ICICI Securities & Religare Enterprises. The semi final between TCS & ICICI A was a nerve wrecking one which swung like a pendulum between the two giants. While ICICI Bank gained a 2 - 0 initial advantage, winning the men's singles & the ladies singles, TCS pulled back one by winning the closely fought men's doubles tie. It was however the mixed doubles match which went to the wire and ICICI Bank squandered two match points in the 4th set and allowed TCS a small foot in the door to eventually win that match and letting the 2nd Men's Singles decide the outcome of the semi final. The 2nd Men's singles also went to the wire with TCS winning the deciding 5th set 16 - 14 amidst a lot of cheering of both the teams. In the other team semi-final ICICI Securities prevailed over Religare Enterprises 3 - 1 to set up the final clash with TCS. The finals also were an intense affair but possibly not as exciting as TCS stole a 3 -1 win over ICICI Securities to emerge as the Corporate Super Team Champions. In the Corporate Super Individuals Category, the participants were fighting for the Men's Singles, Ladies Singles, Men's Doubles & Veteran Singles titles. All the singles events were initially played in a league format comprising 3 or 4 players in a group with the top 2 players from the group qualifying for the main draw. The men's doubles event was played on a direct knockout basis. The star of the day was veteran Suhas Chawan of Global Media Lake Technologies who bagged both the Men's Singles & the Veteran Singles titles by prevailing over Sujay Mallick of HDFC Ergo & Ravi Chopra of Indusion Consulting. In the ladies singles finals Tejaswini Joshi of Afcons Infrastructure prevailed over Garvita Jain of Indigo Airlines & the doubles title was won by the TCS duo of Vishal Yadav & Rupesh More who prevailed over Sujay Mallick & Rohan Udeshi from HDFC Ergo. The finals were covered live by the local In Cable network in Khar & Santacruz and also received mileage in the newspapers. All in all, it was a fantastic tournament and all participants promised to be back the next time it was organised which itself bears testimony to the manner in which it was conducted. NSportz & 11even Sports would like to thank the referees, Khar Gymkhana officials, volunteers , vendors and anyone else associated with making the tournament a grand success. |
