The 3rd edition of the NSportz promoted 11even Sports Corporate TT Tournament concluded at the Khar Gymkhana on the 17th & 18th September 2016. 180 participants across 50 corporates from all over Mumbai took part in this two day mega event which is now one of the most sought after events in the corporate table tennis circuit. There were seven category of events - Corporate Super Mixed Teams, Corporate Super Mens Teams (new addition), Mens Singles, Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Veteran Singles. The level of play witnessed a dramatic improvement & it was evident with some of the big names losing as early as the pre quarter finals to some new talent. The Corporate Super Mixed Teams witnessed a record 18 entries and the corporates were divided into groups of 3 each in the league stage. 12 teams qualified for the knockouts after playing multiple league matches each of which was worth 10 points each. After two rounds of knock outs, the top 4 teams which qualified for the semi finals were ICICI Bank A, defending champions The Design Club, TCS & Reliance Industries A. Both semi finals were gruelling affairs and while TCS knocked out The Design Club in an intensely fought battle, new entrants Reliance Industries had the better of ICICI A in the other semi final. The finals as expected, went to the deciding match with team Reliance edging out the TCS team in the decider to emerge the new champions The new category of the Corporate Super Mens Team saw 12 teams fight in groups of 3 each and the top 4 at the end of the league & the quarter finals were Credit Suisse, HDFC Life, Reliance Industries & Deloitte Consulting. HDFC life proved to be too strong over Credit Suisse whereas Reliance Industries had the better of the Deloitte team in the other semi final. HDFC Life again proved to be too dominant over Reliance Industries in the final and won the title comprehensively. In the Corporate Super Individuals Events, the mens singles event was extremely competitive right from the word go as there were 64 entries. The direct knock out format saw quite a few upsets but it was finally the defending champion Mayuresh Kelkar who fought back from the brink of defeat in the 5th set of the final (down 3 - 9) to defeat Aakash Damle of TCS. Aditya Tawde of HDFC Bank and Viral Patel from Reliance Industries were the semi finalists in the singles events. The ladies singles event was won by Swagata Dey of Reliance Industries who prevailed over Jaya Sikka from ICICI Securities with Apeksha Bhagwat from TCS & Nidhi Sodhani from Reliance Industries being the semi finalists. The Veteran Singles was won by Satish Patel from Reliance Industries with Nitish Kumar of Promo Bags being the runner up & Debjeet Mukerjee from Agarwal Packers along with Vishal Yadav from TCS being the semi finalists. The Mens Doubles was won by the HDFC Life pair of Suraj Chandrashekhar & Yash Doshi who prevailed over Hormaz Pithawala & Amish Chandrana of Tata Capital. The Capgemini team of Samir Deo & Deep Amberkar and the Directi pair of Gaurav Jethwani & Saurabh Paliwal were the semi finalists. In the mixed double , new entrants Manish Deodhar & Rachel Mathias from Bank of America were the winners prevailing over Jaya Sikka & Sajan Varghese of ICICI Securities. Apeksha Bhagwat & Vishal Yadav from TCS & Swagata Dey & Amit Dhasmana from Reliance Industries were the semi finalist pairs All in all it was an exciting affair over the two days & participants were happy with the arrangements & logistics which ensured the tournament was conducted very smoothly |
