NSportz conducted its inaugural over arm tennis cricket tournament at the Aarey Bhaskar Grounds Malad on the 12th & 19th Nov 2016. After 4 successful editions of its highly popular box cricket, it was a fantastic experience to venture in the larger world of overarm cricket widely played by corporates. 13 corporate team fought it out in the initial league stages in four groups. Matches were of 6 overs per innings. In Group A of the four teams , Credit Suisse and Ernst & Young came out on tops with victories over Visible Alpha and Aegon Life. While Credit Suisse won both their league matches and topped the group the second place was decided on the Net Run Rate criteria between Ernst & Young and Visible Alpha who had one win & one loss each in the group stage. Aegon life having lost both their matches were out of contention. Group B, C & D has 3 teams each and after some intense and some one sided matches teams JLT & Hicare Lions qualified from Group B, Asian Paints & KPMG qualified from group C, and Deloitte & iProspect qualified from Group D. The teams that lost out across the groups were Kotak Securities, Hicare Tigers & Mastercard respectively. There was a hatrick by Kotak Securities which made the proceedings very exciting The quarter finals were contested between the top 8 teams and there were some nail biting moments especially in the match between JLT and Ernst & Young. Ernst & Young held their nerve in the last over and proceeded to the semi finals. The other qualifiers were Credit Suisse who prevailed over the Hicare Lions, Asian Paints who dominated iProspect and Deloitte who won comfortably over KPMG. The semi finals were a tough affair with Deloitte winning over Ernst & Young and Asian Paints getting the better of Credit Suisse in another close finish. Credit Suisse clearly ruing dropping the Asian Paints captain in the first ball of the match The finals between Asian Paints & Deloitte was also a kind of personal contest between the two captains both of whom had a superb run till the finals and had led their sides brilliantly. Asian Paints batted first and put a challenging score on the board which was going to be difficult to cross considering it was the final match. Deloitte put up a brave fight but lost their captain early which effectively put at rest their hopes of overhauling the total losing eventually by 24 runs |
