NSportz organised its maiden Corporate Premier League Box Cricket Tournament on May 17th & 18th at Passion United Astro Field, 101 Growel's Mall, Kandivali , Mumbai.
It was an interesting concept liked by all the participants - playing on an astro turf , enclosed playing area, declared runs, bowling from the box, power play overs (batting & bowling). The teams were playing 7 a side with each innings of 6 overs bowled by a different bowler. Average scores were in the 65 - 75 runs with a couple of teams also scoring a 100 plus making the best use of the rules & playing conditions
There were 12 teams in all divided into 4 groups of 3 each. Within a group each team played the other twice & the top two teams per group qualified for the quarter finals. Group A was a closely fought affair with Indigo 6 E Boys & Times of India qualifying for the quarter finals whereas Mahindra Insurance Brokers Limited (MIBL) lost out. eClerx Champs & TCS - Royal Damagers qualified from Group B at the expense of Apax Smashers. In Group C, it was TCS - OCC & Meru - The Pioneers who made it while American Express lost out & finally Kotak Life & Parag Parikh Financial Advisory Services (PPFAS) qualified from Group D.
The quarter finals were fiercely fought with eClerx Champs, TCS Royal Damagers, TCS - OCC & Kotak Life emerging as the semi finalists. The first semi final had a nail biting finish with eClerx Champs just about prevailing over Kotak Life. In the other semi final match between the two TCS teams, the OCC team emerged victorious comfortably over their rivals Royal Damagers.
The final was fought between the best two teams of the tournament - eClerx Champs & TCS - OCC. TCS set a target of 71 runs for eClerx in the stipulated 6 overs but the eClerx Champs could assimilate only 57 runs in the end making the TCS - OCC team Champions of the NSportz Corporate Premier League - Box Cricket Tournament.
NSportz congratulates all the participating teams for a fantastic tournament played in some good spirit. NSportz also thanks the participants, HR / other staff of these companies facilitating the participation of the players, Passion United & Growels Mall for the venue & last but not least, all its volunteers for making the two day event a grand success.
