NSportz promoted the 2nd edition of the 11even Sports Corporate TT Tournament at Khar Gymkhana on the 20th & 21st Feb 2016. Six months after the inaugural edition, the corporates were back on the TT table competing with each other and bringing out their best TT talent. Over 115 participants across 34 corporates were sweating it out and the level of competition was far more intense than the inaugural edition as was witnessed and mentioned by almost all the participants who had played the previous edition. It did seem that there was a lot of preparation done by the corporates for this tournament which is now among the most sought after tournament amongst the various ones that are held. The basic format was similar with the participants competing in two categories - Corporate Super Teams and Corporate Super Individuals. Mixed Doubles was an addition in the Corporate Super Individuals categories. The corporate super teams were an exciting affair with the teams playing 3 league matches with the other corporates in their respective groups and the top 2 teams from every group qualifying for the quarter finals. The level of the competition was evident from the fact that the defending champions TCS team was knocked out in the quarter finals itself. The semi finalist teams comprised The Design Club, Douse Fire Systems, Majesco & ICICI Securities. The Design Club got the better of the Majesco Team in the 1st Semi final whereas Douse Fire Systems knocked out ICICI Securities (who were runners up of the previous edition). What was expected to be a knock out final surprisingly turned out to be a one sided affair as The Design Club won the first 3 matches (men's singles, ladies singles & the men's doubles) albeit closely to win the Team Championship and emerge as the Corporate Super Team of the Tournament. In the Corporate Super Individuals Event, the players were competing for 5 categories (Men's Singles, Ladies Singles, Men's Doubles, Mixed Doubles & Veterans). After initial league matches, the knockouts witnessed extremely close matches right from the first rounds especially in the men's singles and veterans. The defending men's singles champion Suhas Chawan from Medialake Global Technologies was knocked out in the semi finals by giant killer Mayuresh Kelkar of Haymarket Media but Suhas ensured he retained the veterans title once again by beating Ravi Chopra of Indusion Consulting in a repeat of the previous edition veterans final. Mayuresh Kelkar eventually won the men's singles title by prevailing over Shashank Bisht from Accenture who was also a semi finalist in the previous edition. The ladies singles saw Shweta Joshi from Deloitte Consulting prevailing over Apeksha Bhagwat of TCS whereas the TCS pair of Vishal Yadav & Apeksha Bhagwat won the mixed doubles title by defeating Ravindra Ekande & Tejaswini Joshi of Afcons Infrastructure. The men's doubles title was won by the new pair of Shashank Bisht & Gaurav Nandan from Accenture who prevailed over the Capgemini pair of Samir Deo & Aniruddha Damle. Excellent Feedback was received from the participants during the prize distribution ceremony with regards to the organization of the tournament and almost everyone went back with happy memories at the end of the two day affair. NSportz & 11even Sports would like to thank the referees, Khar Gymkhana officials, volunteers , vendors and anyone else associated with making the tournament a grand success. |
